Customizing a Luxury Machu Picchu Vacation to meet your exact need is actually not too difficult. Many visitors to Peru are happy to take standard itineraries that everyone else does. But why be the same? Why not make your trip something unique and different from the well trodden path. Let us introduce you to personal touches and ideas that will make your trip stand apart from the rest.

Peru is a vast country and there are many things to do and see. Of course your principle reason for travelling to Peru is probably to see the New World Wonder Machu Picchu. But what else is there to do that is fun, interesting, unique and memorable?
Great luxury Peru vacations start with a clear idea of what you want to do. You know what you enjoy, what makes you happy and what you prefer to leave out. So why not incorporate all the best bits of Peru and tailor an itinerary to your liking?

Here are a few of our suggestions on how you can make your luxury Machu Picchu Vacation unique.

1) Go Somewhere Where Other Tourists Don't Go!
There some pretty well-trodden circuits throughout Peru, especially in the Cusco Region. Opt for something different and try to include something which the majority don't. Why not include a trip to some lesser known Inca archaeological sites where you get an exclusive look at something others overlook. Here are two really nice ones:

Tipon: A beautiful Inca site located in a remote mountain top location 30 minutes from Cusco. This well maintained attraction was an important agricultural site for the Inca’s. It once harnessed water from the melting mountain snow-caps and a natural spring located the rear of the site.

Moray: Hidden in the heights of the Andes a 45 minute drive from Cusco is the Inca site of Moray. This mysterious series of circular terraces which descend deep into the mountain are something completely unique, and different to any other Inca site in the region. The drive along the top of the Sacred Valley offers some of the best photographic opportunities in the region.

2) A Few Days in the Colca Canyon
In the south-west of Peru a few hours from Arequipa is the remote and beautiful Colca Canyon. This picturesque region of Peru is famous for having a canyon that is twice as deep as the Grand Canyon (USA). It is also home to the mighty giant condor which can be seen most mornings gliding over the hot air currents that rise from the canyon. As this is a volcanic region, there are also many natural hot springs dotted throughout the area. Las Casitas del Colca (which was once an Orient Express hotel) is the most exclusive hotel in the area, but the Colca Lodge Hotel is a superb alternative. The Colca Lodge features an incredible onsite spa, and natural hot-springs within the grounds. If you like nature and you like to relax then the Colca Canyon could be a great addition to add to your luxury Machu Picchu vacation.

3) Take a Cruise Along the Amazon River
Not many people know that the Amazon River actually starts in Peru. The source of the Amazon starts near Iquitos in Northern Peru where the Ucayali-Apurímac River and the Marañón River converge. Iquitos which once economically boomed from the production of rubber is also the starting point for several high-end luxury Amazon River Cruises. Aqua Expeditions and Delfin Amazon Cruises are two excellent cruise operators, offering multi-day cruise to the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve south of Iquitos. This route is extremely exclusive and the river boats are some of the best in South America. For a 4 days cruise prices start from around US$ 2,500 per person.

4) Spend a night in a luxury tree-house
Eco-tourism in Peru is growing year on year. The Tambopata National Park is probably the most visited region, and is also one of the most developed for tourism. Considered to be one of the most bio-diverse regions on the planet, the national park is home to more than 50,000 plant species, 600 different types of birds, 2,000 species of fish and 300 types of reptiles. One of the very best Jungle Lodges is the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica Lodge, located 2 hours down-river from Puerto Maldonado (where the airport is located). The lodge boasts luxury accommodations crafted from local materials, an excellent restaurant and some of the best naturalist guides in the area. It is here that you can also spend a night on the canopy of the Amazon Jungle, in a luxury tree-house. This unique hotel room a few hundred feet up, includes a gourmet dinner served to you by your own personal tree-top waiter. Perfect for a romantic night, a honeymoon or just simply great fun for the whole family. Talk to a Luxury Machu Picchu Vacation expert for more information.

5) Include a Day of Golf
Peru probably isn’t the first place you consider for great golf courses, but there are actually 3 very exclusive courses in the capital – Lima. One of the most exclusive courses is the Lima Golf Club located next to the luxury Country Club Hotel. Use the corporate membership of the hotel to play at reduced green fees and enjoy a round of golf. You can take your clubs with you or they can be rented from the club-house.
